Honorable Mention
Cemetery (memento mori)
Janis (Carole MacRury)

We wander among
tombstones and crypts,
among stone Marys
and winged innocence.

In this urban acreage
we hear
the communal song;
the Danse Macabre
of those fallen,
those once held dear.

It comes to this --
death waits like a star;
veiled by day,
revealed by dusk.

We broker no complaint;
but wait, flesh-encased
upon the green –
a legion of bone
beneath our feet.
